Hamamatsu Photonics makes a financial investment in Comptek Solutions

Hamamatsu Photonics K.K., a leading manufacturer of optoelectronic devices, makes a financial investment in Comptek Solutions to support the development of passivation technology for laser applications.

Hamamatsu Photonics K.K., a leading manufacturer of optoelectronic devices, makes a financial investment in Comptek Solutions to support the development of passivation technology for laser applications.

Since 2017, Comptek Solutions commercializes its novel Kontrox™ technology to solve the oxidation issue in various III-V compound semiconductor materials enabling further industrial and technological developments in the field of optoelectronics, communications, power electronics and more.

Comptek and Hamamatsu have been collaborating on the implementation of Kontrox passivation technology into edge-emitting laser diodes, seeking to increase the power threshold of Catastrophic Optical Damage and obtain the highest power output of the devices. This investment will strengthen the collaboration between the companies, bringing together Hamamatsu’s long heritage and experience in the optoelectronics field and Comptek´s know-how in III-V semiconductor physics.

“We have been working with Hamamatsu for a long time and have achieved promising results. Their decision to invest in Comptek indicates strong trust in our technology and will significantly speed up the developments of laser applications” – says Vicente Calvo, CEO of Comptek.

Hamamatsu Photonics K.K. was founded in 1953 by a group of engineers who had been trained by Dr. Kenjiro Takayanagi, a pioneer in the development of television. With over 60 years of scientific research in optics the company is a global leader in the development of optical technologies including photomultiplier tubes, imaging tubes, light sources, opto-semiconductors, video measuring systems and image processing systems. Headquartered in Hamamatsu City, Japan, the company has facilities and offices throughout Asia, Europe, Africa and the Americas.
